Abstract : In a two-year laboratory and hatchery study, growth and general quality were compared in Atlantic salmon fed different diets and held at seasonal temperatures. Fish were fed six diets at the laboratory and four of the same diets at the hatchery. At the end of the first year of growth, fish greater or equal to 14 cm (presmolts) were removed and the study continued with a reduced number of smaller fish, presumed to be nonsmolts. During the study, fish quality was evaluated on the basis of fin condition, proximate composition, histology, and sodium regulation.
