Abstract : A long rod projectile is modeled as a free-free Timoshenko beam. While penetrating an oblique thin plate, the yawed projectile is subjected to a transverse point load traveling at a constant speed. The resulting equations are solved by applying Laplace transformation and numerical inversion. The effects of the slenderness ratio and the cross-section of the projectile on its transient behavior are studied.
