Abstract : The primary goal of this predoctoral fellowship research project is to investigate the use of a plastic scintillating fiber screen (SFS) as the x-ray-to-light conversion material in a scanning slot x-ray imaging detector for mammography. Methods to maximize the scintillation light generation and output from an SFS will be developed. An SFS with optimized imaging performance will be constructed. A prototype scanning slot digital mammography detector based on the optimized SFS will be constructed, and its imaging performance will be evaluated.
