Abstract : The Upper Mississippi River (UMR) corridor provides critical habitat for millions of migratory birds each year. The long-term viability of the UMR as a resource for migratory birds is threatened by the adverse effects of sedimentation and many human-induced influences. Wise stewardship of this politically and ecologically complex river system depends on a thorough understanding of its biological relations.
