Abstract : A laboratory experimental program has been performed to characterize the rheology of rock subject to moderate perturbations in stress. The objectives were to provide laboratory data to aid in the development and constraint of realistic rock rheologies suitable for modeling wave propagation in the moderate-strain and brittle-damage regimes. This information was needed to better understand the extent to which nonlinear material properties are important to regional discriminants and event detection.
