Abstract : This study examines the Department of Defense mobility requirements study process. The thesis of the study is that while past efforts at mobility requirements determination have provided needed answers, the existing process must be revised to provide more timely and more accurate results. Mobility requirements studies are used by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff; and the Services to determine strategic lift requirements in terms of pre-positioning, sealift, airlift, and intratheater lift. The study analyzes data input, simulation models, and the processes used to conduct the Mobility Requirements Study and the Mobility Requirements Study Bottom-Up Review Update. The study concludes that the adoption of specific suggested changes to the current process will result in faster and more accurate results.
