Abstract : The purpose of our current work is to determine whether there are differences in blood levels of 1,25-dihydroxy- vitamin D between women with breast cancer and two control groups of women without breast cancer. We are using archived samples of blood obtained from women in a just completed case-control study of genetic risk factors for breast cancer. In addition, we are working to modify the immunohistochemical technique for detection of vitamin D receptors (VDR) described for frozen tissue for use in paraffin embedded tissue.
