Abstract : The new theory of physical wavelets makes it possible to perform radar and sonar analysis directly in the space time domain, based on fundamental principles underlying the emission, reflection, and reception of electromagnetic and acoustic waves. Being independent of the Fourier transform and even of the usual (affine) wavelet transform, this formalism is therefore equally well suited for ultrawideband or short pulse radar as for narrowband or continuous wave radar. However, Fourier analysis does have a natural place in this theory and can be used easily when spectral questions are of interest.
