Abstract : The effect of chemical exposure from DoD critical fluids and contaminants/decontaminates on the degradation of material properties is important to material evaluation and selection for military products. A set of enhancements to a traditional chemical material compatibility database is described. These improvements were required to support the early selection of chemically resistant materials in a concurrent engineering environment. This initial phase of developing an integrated chemical material compatibility system included organization of tests into a comprehensive scheme; test selection for the initial screening tests in the scheme; the increased standardization of test procedures and reports required to support database queries; and the control of data set flow from the test laboratory directly to the database.
