Abstract : Microwave sintering studies of oxide ceramics have been conducted at 2.45 GHz. A single-mode cavity microwave furnace, operating in the TE103 mode, was used to investigate sintering of pure and doped nanocrystalline alumina. The purpose of these experiments was to determine the effect of additives on the sintering process in the nanocrystalline regime. The optimization of insulating casket and susceptor systems was also investigated.
