Abstract : The purpose of this paper is to describe the events of youth and early adulthood of Thomas J. Jackson, leading to his appointment to West Point and service in the Army. A brief account of his early Army career and teaching career precedes the main theme of this paper, a detailed portrayal of the famous Valley Campaign planned and executed by General Jackson. The conclusion will include a report of the leadership and tactics employed by General Jackson and the effects of the Valley Campaign on the war waged on the Peninsula.
