Abstract : This report presents an analytical method developed to assess the power requirement and placement of the solid state actuators for enhanced maneuver performance of tactical fighters. Optimal control methodology is employed to compute the input stimuli such that the total power requirement is minimum with reduced peak stress levels. The study suggests that solid state actuators require some form of mechanical magnification of displacement for reduced control actuation power.
