Abstract : An experimental test program was undertaken to characterise the inelastic response of D6AC steel under differing cyclic loading. A unified constitutive model was used to describe material behaviour. Constants for the model were extracted from the test results and numerical model predictions were compared with the experimental results. The tests revealed that D6AC steel saturates after one cyclic loop and a change in modulus was observed after unloading from a tensile load. Also described are improvements in the testing of uniaxial specimens, focusing on techniques for specimen alignment to minimise out of plane bending effects.
