Abstract : The purpose of this study is to compare three different types of energy management systems and determine which system would be most effective in each of a variety of different buildings. The three systems chosen for this analysis are the FM Relay (FMR), Power Line Carrier (PLC) and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. The analysis performed was based upon five buildings of different function, occupancy, and scheduling as well as different types of mechanical systems. The recommendations listed in this report are to be applied over the entire Installation using the criteria listed for evaluating each building. This study will develop the recommended strategies for applying energy management systems (EMS) to many of the buildings at Ft. Belvoir.
