Abstract : Training is one of the factors influencing the effectiveness of teams. The concept team training, however, is often confused with the concept team building. Although the ultimate goal of both team training and team building is the same, there are considerable differences between the two. Also, team training is wrongly conceived of as cooperative learning. Again, there are similarities, but distinctions as well. In this report the differences and similarities between team training on the one hand, and team building and cooperative learning on the other hand, are discussed, with the purpose to define as clearly as possible the research on team training design. The implications of this comparison, and the experiences acquired in the fields of team building and cooperative learning, for the research on a methodology for developing team training systems, are discussed.
