Abstract : During our first year of funding, we tested the effects of caffeine, bright light, and placebo treatments on alertness, performance, mood, melatonin, and body temperature during 48 hr of sleep deprivation. We also assessed the effects of menstrual cycle phase (Follicular vs. Luteal) and Oral Contraceptive use on the same measures. To date, 42 women have participated. These subjects were tested in one of 9 experimental conditions.
