Abstract : Cooperative Agreement DAMD17-95-2-50O1 was implemented 15 October 1994 to provide funding support of Royal Thai Army investigators at the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) engaged in research activities in collaboration with US Army investigators. The principal focus of research under the agreement is directed to activities to prepare for development and testing of vaccine(s) for the prevention of HIV infection and/or disease. During the reporting period, research activities were directed in 3 primary areas: 1) continuing study of the natural history of HIV infection/disease in Thais to define and establish endpoints for projected vaccine efficacy testing; 2) cohort development studies attempting to define an appropriate population(s) for vaccine testing; and 3) conduction of phase I/II vaccine studies to determine safety and immunogenicity of potential HIV vaccines in Thais.
