Abstract : Specifically, we have investigated mathematically the dynamics of pulses in nonlinear optical fibers, helped design a highly-stable 60 GHz soliton source, investigated methods for controlling solitons using phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSAs), modeled the application of PSAs to optical storage loops and other optical devices, studied timing jitter in mode-locked erbium fiber lasers, and explored a new method for controlling streams of high-speed optical pulses using periodic optical phase conjugation.
