Abstract : Dr. Stephen Wetmore, Coroner, Ministry of the Solicitor General, asked DCIEM to investigate the possibility that carbon dioxide build-up may have been a predisposing factor in the death of an infant. This is an account of the circumstances surrounding the death, the methods used to examine the hypothesis, the results and a discussion with recommendations regarding the results. CO2 rebreathing has been considered as a causal factor in some infant deaths.
