Abstract : For program management and budget purposes, DOE has organized its Fossil Energy R&D Program into five major R&D areas, several of which are further divided into subprograms. The general goal of work in these areas-together with the Clean Coal Technology Demonstration Program-is to improve the utilization of fossil fuels by improving facets of the production, delivery, and/or use of coal, natural gas, and petroleum. Table 1 summarizes the subprograms' goals and provides examples of technologies addressed by these major program areas. Appendix II presents additional details on goals and technologies for activities within the subprograms.
