Abstract : In early 2014, the Department of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office asked the RAND National Defense Research Institute (NDRI) to conduct an independent assessment of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination in the military an assessment last conducted in 2012 by the department itself through the Workplace and Gender Relations Survey. The 2014 RAND Military Workplace Study (RMWS) fielded a new survey in the summer of 2014 to a much larger sample of the military community than previous surveys men and women, both on active duty and in the reserve component, and including the four DoD military services plus the Coast Guard.
