Abstract : The chief novelty in the method seems to be an accurate adjustment of four welding variables, which adjustment would be difficult to maintain under usual shop conditions in a production plant. The weld produced is subject to defects inherent to the method in that a plane of weakness is produced through the center of the weld. There is also a likelihood of the formation of relatively large gas cavities in the penetration zone. The method is applicable only to automatic welding and for this reason would have a very limited application to Ordnance work.
