Abstract : The experiments were worked out in 1921. Their aims were: (a) The verification of the general theory of the process of coldworking; (b) The detailed study of deformation processes under the two methods of cold-working; with, and without, longitudinal tension; (c) The investigation of the process of rupture. The experiments were carried out on four 37-mm tubes, turned externally to 80 mm for a length of about 1.50 m. An enlarged section was left at one end and a hoop placed at the other, in such a way as to prevent the tube from being deformed right at the joints.
