Abstract : This report discusses the arc welding of structural alloy steels. The ease or the difficulty with which a steel structure may be successfully fusion welded depends upon several factors including: (1) Chemical composition of the steel, and (2) Heat effect of welding on the steel. Other factors involved, such as, heat treatment of the steel, design of the structure, the type of service for which the structure is intended, availability of suitable welding materials and personnel, etc., but the two first mentioned are of fundamental metallurgical importance.
