Abstract : The four plates forming the sides of the box were first set up in position. Then the box cover plate on which the domo rests were inserted and tacked in place. With the box assembled and tack welded only considerable care was required in handling in order to prevent breaking of the tack welds. The interior welds were made first before any of the outside welds were made. The two halves of the circular side plate were set up in position with their ends butting to form the circle and the low carbon steel backing strips tacked in position so that the ring could be set up with the butt joints horizontal. These backing strips were hot formed to fit the inner surface of the ring along the joints. The tack welds consisted of three on each side of the strip equally distributed and each about 2 inch long.
