Abstract : To explain the method used at Watertown Arsenal in designing guns and their containers for cold working. The ease and economy of coldworking guns in their containers depend primarily upon the simplicity of the contour of the finished gun. The ideal weapon from the point of view of both economy and simplicity of design for cold working and manufacture is a gun with a minimum number of tapers and progressively smaller diameters from breech to muzzle. The 90 m/m AA T2 gun is an outstanding example of a weapon which causes undue waste of steel, inasmuch as half way down its length there is a decided reversal of taper.
