Abstract : A welded MONEL specimen was submitted to ascertain the effect of welding on the plate material. The specimen was a four layer and seal bead weld. The added metal was practically free of gas holes visible to the unaided eye even when a highly polished surface was examined. Slight grain growth occurred in the plate adjacent to the added metal. Fig. 1 x 3 - FeCl3 etched shows the weld layers and location of the micrographs taken to show grain growth. Fig. 2-4 x 25 FeCl3 etched show the slight grain growth adjacent to the added metal, their locations are shown in Fig. 1.
