Abstract : This report describes the results of the plating and evaluation of these in terms of their effect on the plating process. In concluding the work with radioactive tracer, some tests were made on the Chrome-Alum bath using radioactive Cr+3 as a tracer. Although not conclusive, the results indicated that the Cr+3 ion was the main contributor to the plate. To complete the comparison between the Chrome-Alum bath and chromic acid baths I-V curve data was taken for this solution. Results shosed that the plating range was critically affected by chagnes in the plating variables and indicated a considerably lower heat of activation for Cr+3 yield Cr in this environment than for Cr+6 yield Cr in chromic acid solutions. The feasibility of a short test of the effect of addition agents to chromic acid using the inclined cathode cell was investigated. some preliminary experiments were carried out to produce low alloy chromium plates with the object of reducing the cracking tendency of ordinary chromium plate.
