Abstract : At a conference held at Watertown Arsenal on 17 October 1946, representatives of the Office, Chief of Ordnance, Small Arms Development Branch, requested this Laboratory to prepare erosion test nozzles by powder metallurgy techniques. It was desired that five nozzles be prepared from each of the following metal powders: copper, iron, tungsten and stainless steel. The nozzles, designed for use in an experimental 37mm recoilless gun, were to subjected to erosion tests at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The object of the tests was to determine whether sintered nozzles with a small amount of porosity were compable in erosion resistance to wrought nozzles of the same composition having zero porosity.
