Abstract : The object of this projects is the investigation of the fundamental principles of chromium plating baths from the standpoint of thermodynamic theory. Experimental work has been continued in an attempt to correlate theoretical equations developed from reaction rate theory with the actual plating processes. These equations have been further adapted to apply to the plating of chromium from chromic acid. It has been possible to obtain consistent data at varying temperatures and from these make calculations of heat of activation for the plating range of variables. Some work has been done on the effect of other variables such as sulfate concentration and trivalent chromium concentrations but results are only qualitative until more data can be obtained. Much of the time expended during the period covered by this report has involved determination of reproducible experimental procedures. Along this line some attempts to develop a Hull cell method for taking data have been carried out.
