Abstract : Electrode UE-16A was made identical to Electrode UE-16 except that Rayox LW titania was substituted in the coating for Rayox WR titania because the latter was no longer commercially available. Tests showed that the change in type of titania produced no apparent effect upon the operating characteristics of the electrode. Weld metal deposited by Electrode UE-16A gaive 9% elongation in 2 inches in the as-welded condition and 15% after stress relieving at 1100 deg F. for 2 hours. The first value is lower than the average of 13% obtained prevously with Electrode UE-16, and the second is slightly higher. Notched-bar tests on UE-16A weld metal in the as-welded condition gave better average results (24 ft.-lbs.) than were obtained from UE-16 weld metal (16 ft.-lbs.). On the basis of these tests and subsequent tests with other electrodes, the change in type of Rayox titania used in electrode coatings has no apparent effect on the properties of the electrodes or their weld metals.
