Abstract : Standard thermodynamic functions have been evaluated for a postulated chain of reactions for the plating of chromium from chromic acid. The main basis for eactions and data are taken from the existing literature on the subject. It has been shown that an adaption of the theory will be required before a complete theoretical analysis is possible. Experimental work has been directed toward possible tests of the theory as proposed. Review of existing experimental data has not seemed to warrant duplication experiments to check this data. Work has been carried out on cell measurements at elevated temperatures, studies of particular plating bath reactions, and preliminary studies of codeposition of another metal with chromium as a possible aid in obtaining fundamental data.
