Abstract : The purpose of this study will be to isolate surface antigens from the culture filtrates of staphyloccus and to purify and characterize them. Further immunochemical relationship of the various surface antigens will be studied and the feasibility of classifying S. aureus will based on these antigens will be attempted. The biological significance of these antigens in the pathogenicity of S. aureus will also be studied by employing the mouse protection test as well as the phagocytic index test as described by Cohn and Morse.
