Abstract : A partial description of a high-level language, based on FORTRAN, for ILLIAC IV is given. Essentially, basic FORTRAN is extended to achieve storage allocation based on vectors, algorithmic parallelism by mode control statements, and data routing (between PE memories) and indexing through subscripted array references. Furthermore, the rationale for selecting FORTRAN as the base language is given. Finally, an estimate of object code efficiency is made based on preliminary compiler implementation algorithms.
