Abstract : Initial experiments were directed to finding a morphine effect on growth of Novikoff Hepatoma cells. Data obtained provided the information that between 5x10 to the minus 4 and 10 to the minus 3m morphine sulfate were growth inhibitory. Further experiments did not reproduce initial success. We then switched to a fibroblastic cell type--mouse L cells. Initial results were encouraging, indicating that some dependence of L cells on the presence of morphine developed. Again repeated experiments failed to show this phenomenon.
