Abstract : An intraoral and maxillofacial fluoroscope with peripheral equipment is being developed and evaluated. The device utilizes a small number of short x-ray pulses, which form an image (inside the mouth, for example) on a phosphor covering the end of a coherent fiber optic bundle. The fiber optic bundle is curved and carries the low light level image out of the mouth to a small electronic image intensifier, which amplifies the image to a point above visual threshold. A closed circuit television system further amplifies the image and presents it on a monitor. A video disc recorder is used to freeze the image and lengthen it in time sufficiently for analysis without further x-ray exposure.
