Abstract : Numerical experiments based on physical laws governing atmospheric motions and processes of heat and moisture exchange have taken on major importance in the development of numerical methods of weather forecasting and studying the genesis of climate and the general circulation. This article outlines a scheme of the general circulation of the atmosphere which in its physical content differs from previous studies of this problem in that the cloudiness and humidity are not given but are rather determined in the process of integration of the appropriate equations. However, the temperature of the ocean is considered known from climatological data. Failure to assign this temperature would require that we include in the model a system of equations describing the laws governing oceanic circulation. For a number of reasons examination of such a total problem is premature at this time. In this work the general circulation in the northern hemisphere of the cold season is studied.
