Abstract : The Mud Lake Pumping Station and its associated channel from Blue Bank Bayou is in an early sector of the current Mississippi River meander belt. The lower (southern) half of the study area is in a low-lying meander scar of the Mississippi and was mostly under water at the time of the field work, as was the sector along the levee berm in the upper one-third of the area. The exposed ground area was examined on foot by the principal investigator, and local residents were asked about sites in the impact area. No sites had been previously recorded in the study area. No sites of historic importance were found, but three prehistoric sites were found in the study area.
