Abstract : The emission spectra at 4.2 K from a polycrystalline zinc selenide grown by a chemical vapor deposition method consists of numerous bound exciton lines ranging in wavelength from 4430 to 4577 Angstrom. The prominent transitions arise from the decay of an exciton bound to a zinc vacancy and Li on a substitutional zinc cite respectively. The lines seen at 4472.07, 4525.11, and 4544.82 Angstrom are identified to be associated with iron which is the major impurity in the material.
