Abstract : A 'round robin' nondestructive test evaluation of two complex metal to metal adhesive bonded specimens, representative of the wide body full scale aircraft fuselage section which was fabricated under contract F33615-75-C-3016 'Primary Adhesively Bonded Structures Technology' (PABST) program was conducted. The effort was primarily aimed at determining the effectiveness of the state-of-the art nondestructive test (NDT) techniques for the inspection of complex metal to metal adhesive bonded structures. Several methods were evaluated including X-ray, ultrasonics, and coin tap. Although no standards were provided, excellent correlations of the various methods were obtained. Participation in the 'round robin' included private industry and government organizations. The test and results are discussed. (Author)
