Abstract : H.I. antibody response to a single injection of the 1981 influenza vaccine, which had been increased in potency from 7 to 15 micrograms of hemagglutinin of each component, was measured in 81 recruits. The response to the H3N2 and H1N1 components was excellent. Response to the influenza B component was mediocre when measured with whole virus B/Singapore/79 antigen, but excellent when tested with ether-split antigen. This report discusses: Antibody Response to Vaccination, Hemagglutination inhibiting antibody response, Complement fixation tests; Incidence of Febrile Respiratory Disease; Comparison of Febrile U.R.I. Incidence in Recent and Earlier Years; Outbreak of H1N1 Influenza A; Outbreak of Influenza B; Antibody Response in Cases of Influenza; Comments on Vaccine Effectiveness; Comparison of Different Laboratory Procedures for Diagnosis of Influenza; Estimates of Protective H.I. Antibody Levels; Comparison of Severity in H1N1 Influenza A and in Influenza B; Analysis of Febrile U.R.I. by Etiology; Antibody Response to A/Shanghai/31/80.
