Abstract : The software engineering industry is producing a vast array of new tools, operating systems, and workstations. Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE), graphical user interfaces, high power workstations, and software interface standards are developing at a rapid rate. Unfortunately, these new developments do not fully support the unique requirements of the Department of Defense (DoD). Reuseability, interoperability, large system development, open architectures, and reliable development processes place an additional burden on the software engineering environment. In order to be effective productivity enhancers, commercial capabilities must be adapted to unique DoD demands. The STARS project can play a crucial role in linking commercial developments and DoD needs. This document, IBM Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) Sequence Number 03032, SEE Technical Report, describes the results of the work performed under STARS subtasks IS20.1 (SEE Integration) and IS20.4 (SEE Alpha Test) from the IBM STARS S-Increment Statement of Work. This includes a description of the initial instantiation of an IBM SEE, solution, experiences in the use of the capabilities of the initial SEE solution in real projects, and discussions of new and emerging technologies being developed and evaluated by the IBM STARS team for inclusion into the SEE.
