Abstract : The patent relates to an annular edge-cooled transpiration radiometer for measuring the total radiation incident on the walls of a circular tube containing a flowing plasma. The device is an annular, tube-like device and comprises a sensing means, a cooling means and a transpiration gas means. The device separates radiation from convection by blowing cold gas through a porous section of the circular tube wall. The alternative embodiment is a spot radiometer comprising a porous disk supported on the end of a cylindrical-shaped gas transpiration means which is also provided with a cooling means. The spot radiometer is suitable for installation into a duct or enclosure and is designed for 'energy balance' operation.
