Abstract : The patent describes a multi-component flow probe for determining the characteristics, such as the presence of voids, in heavily loaded multi-component flows, either columnar or in rotating fluidized beds. The probe is provided by using a wedge-shaped fiber optic rod transmitting light into the flow and detecting the light reflected by the flow through an adjacent wedge-shaped fiber optic rod. The wedge of the rod points upstream the general flow direction. The angle and shape of the point of the wedge of the fiber rods are relatively critical.
