Abstract : The patent describes a device for achieving optical mixing in optical waveguides which is not dependent upon a precise and uniform waveguide thickness. This result is accomplished by using an almost symmetric waveguide geometry, narrow waveguide widths and the lowest order TE or TM modes. Such systems are used for harmonic generation, parametric oscillation, and upconversion of radiation.
