Abstract : The patent relates to a processor for radar and multichannel sonar spectral analysis of band-limited input signals based on a shift register implementation of a fast Fourier transform algorithm coupled with a single flow-through arithmetic unit. Speed is obtained by using an organization that performs the rapid data reordering required for execution of the algorithm. A post-processing unit is used to increase the quality of estimation of line spectra in statistically short term spectra. The unit can be used either as an integrator or as a first order recursive filter. The post-processing unit is implemented in a flowing point format to maintain the dynamic range.
