Abstract : The patent application is directed to a method and apparatus for reducing an electrostatic hazard produced during the use of carbon dioxide, CO2, fire extinguishers equipped with a plastic horn or nozzle. A metal sleeve is inserted into the plastic nozzle so that the inner end of the sleeve is in contact with the metal orifice connected to the discharge line of the fire extinguisher. Further, the metal sleeve insert is of less length than that of the nozzle so that the outer end of the nozzle overlaps or extends beyond the end of the metal sleeve. A new discharge nozzle may be made as a separate element which includes a metal sleeve or liner surrounded with a glass cloth reinforced resin sheath bonded thereto.
