Abstract : The present invention provides a dynamic acoustic measurement system to measure various acoustic parameters in a specimen during the application of a stress regime which enhances microflaws to such an extent as to make them detectable. The specimen is subjected to programmed tensile stress while a pulse of ultrasonic energy is emitted into one end via a transducer situated within a grip which is holding the specimen. The pulse is received at the far end of the specimen by a transducer and displayed, or it is received by the emitting transducer as an echo and displayed. Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to acoustically detect and monitor microflaws in a specimen. Another object of the present invention is to provide a measurement of acoustic properties of a specimen subjected to a programmed application of tensile stress.
