Abstract : The conversion of a hydroacoustic signal into an electrical signal is accomplished through a piezoelectric polymer, polyvinylidene flouride. A system comprises a pair of acrylic discs separated by an aluminum spacing cylinder. Poled and electroded piezoelectric polymer pieces are aranged on the inside of the discs with electrical leads connected. Mechanical deformation of the polymer caused by disc flexure generates a corresponding voltage which is picked off by the electrical leads. (Author)
