Abstract : A system for controlling the gas flow from a gas generator in response to changes of power demands from a power turbine by power-using machinery without mechanical coupling of the gas generator to the power turbine is described. Variable stator vanes in the gas generator compressor are modulated as means of affecting gas flow changes and, hence, engine power changes. An automatic control system which is responsive to signals derived from power turbine speed or the power using machinery or some combination of the two provides a suitable means for controlling the stator vanes for power modulation. An overspeed limiter operates to reset the stator vanes and to reduce the gas generator speed resulting in a faster reduction of unbalanced power and less overspeeding of the power turbine.
